Amarante
The municipality of Amarante is the largest in Tâmega e Sousa, with an area of 301.33 km2, corresponding to 16.5% of the sub-region's territory, and 52,000 inhabitants.
It is characterised by a significant dualism, with the parishes on the right bank of the river Tâmega being attracted by the dynamism of the Porto Metropolitan Area, while those on the left bank tend to be marked by their introverted traits.
Agriculture, particularly wine production, construction and the metalworking industry are some of the most important economic activities of this municipality.
