The Intermunicipal Community of Tâmega e Sousa is responsible for:

• Organising, planning, developing and coordinating the networks and lines of the public passenger transport service, as well as the facilities and infrastructures dedicated to it;
   
• Operating the public passenger transport service by its own means and/or by awarding it to public service operators, by means of public service agreements or mere authorisation;
   
• Defining public service obligations;
   
• Investing in networks, facilities and infrastructure dedicated to the public passenger transport service, without prejudice to the investment to be made by public transport operators;
   
• Financing the public passenger transport service, as well as the networks, facilities and infrastructure dedicated to it, and financing public service obligations and compensation for the provision of subsidised social fares determined by the Intermunicipal Community of Tâmega e Sousa bodies;
   
• Defining and approving the fare schemes in force within the scope of the public passenger operation service;
   
• Supervising and monitoring the operation of the public passenger transport service;
   
• Carrying out mobility surveys within the respective geographical area;
   
• Promoting the adoption of transport planning instruments in the respective geographical area;
   
• Advertising the public passenger transport service;
   
• Promoting proper liaison with the other Transport Authorities, as well as with the technical services of the municipalities delegating competence;
   
• Managing programmes and projects related to fare reduction, support for the densification and strengthening of the public transport offer, flexible transport or others;
   
• Preparing applications for payment of the community contribution, with a view to their approval;
   
• Exercising the other competences delegated to the Intermunicipal Community of Tâmega e Sousa in the area of transport.
